Page missing from the sitemap

Pages that were found by following links but are missing from sitemap.xml. The sitemap is how a site tells search engines which pages exist and matter. A page missing from it can still be found through links, only later and with less certainty.

NoticeCRAWL-004 · Crawlability · checked on every page

Where it usually comes from

A sitemap generated by a plugin that leaves out some page types — filters, tags, custom pages — or a static sitemap.xml that was never updated after new pages went up.

How to fix it

  • Add these pages to sitemap.xml. If the sitemap is generated, the generator is leaving them out — check which types of page it includes.
  • Keep the sitemap to the addresses you want indexed, all on https://www.example.com.

Shown for an example shop at www.example.com. In a Trakis report the same fix comes with your own addresses and the list of your pages it applies to.

How to check it yourself

Search your sitemap.xml for the address, or submit the sitemap in Search Console and compare the number of URLs it lists with the pages you know you have.

What it looks like in a report

Notice The page does not appear in sitemap.xml. · /brand/* · 40 pages

A whole template of brand pages is missing from the sitemap, which points at the generator, not at 40 separate pages. (An example shop; the numbers are illustrative.)

How the audit counts it

CRAWL-004 is a notice in the crawlability category, and weighs lightly in that category’s score. When it appears on many pages built from the same template, the report shows it once, with the number of pages it covers — because one change in the template fixes all of them.

If the finding is deliberate on your site, it can be accepted as intentional in the report. It then leaves the list and the score, and comes back on its own if what it shows changes.

Find it on your site

A Trakis audit runs this check and the other 65 on your site, and tells you on how many pages each one sits. Or go back to all the rules.
