Too many links on the page

Pages with more than 150 links. Every link on a page shares its weight with the others. Mega-menus with hundreds of links dilute the signal to the pages that matter and make it harder to see which ones do.

NoticeLINK-001 · Links · checked on every page

Where it usually comes from

Mega-menus that list every category and subcategory, footers with dozens of links, and long product grids without pagination.

How to fix it

  • Look at where the links come from: usually the menu and the footer, repeated on every page.
  • Keep the menu to the main sections; link deeper pages from the section pages instead of from everywhere.

How to check it yourself

Count the links with a browser extension, or search the developer tools for <a and read the number of matches.

What it looks like in a report

Notice 240 links on a single page dilute the signal to the pages that matter. · whole site

The same mega-menu on every page; trimming it once changes every page. (An example shop; the numbers are illustrative.)

How the audit counts it

LINK-001 is a notice in the links category, and weighs lightly in that category’s score. When it appears on many pages built from the same template, the report shows it once, with the number of pages it covers — because one change in the template fixes all of them.

If the finding is deliberate on your site, it can be accepted as intentional in the report. It then leaves the list and the score, and comes back on its own if what it shows changes.
