Title too short

Titles shorter than 15 characters. A title of one or two words says little about the page and wastes the space people read first. It is often just the brand, repeated on every page.

Where it usually comes from

Titles that contain only the brand, or only a one-word category name, because the template never adds anything to it.

How to fix it

  • Write a <title> of 30–70 characters for each page: what the page is, then the site's name. The first 60 are the ones shown almost everywhere.
  • No two pages should share one. Set it in the template from the page's own name, so new pages get one too.

<title>{{ page.name }} | Example Shop</title>

Shown for an example shop at www.example.com. In a Trakis report the same fix comes with your own addresses and the list of your pages it applies to.

How to check it yourself

Look at the browser tab or the page source: a title that says nothing beyond the brand is too short.

What it looks like in a report

Notice The title is only 8 characters and leaves space unused. · evidence: "Contact"

Adding what the page offers and the brand turns one word into a title people can choose. (An example shop; the numbers are illustrative.)

How the audit counts it

ONPAGE-003 is a notice in the on-page category, and weighs lightly in that category’s score. When it appears on many pages built from the same template, the report shows it once, with the number of pages it covers — because one change in the template fixes all of them.

If the finding is deliberate on your site, it can be accepted as intentional in the report. It then leaves the list and the score, and comes back on its own if what it shows changes.

A Trakis audit runs this check and the other 65 on your site, and tells you on how many pages each one sits. Or go back to all the rules.
